‘OotP’ included on BAFTA longlists

With the awards season slowly upon us, news comes from Britain that “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has been included in the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA’s) longlists for this year in six categories. The BAFTA longlists include 15 movies in each category, from which five nominees will be chosen in the second round of voting, which closes January 14th.

The fifth movie in the “Harry Potter” franchise, “Order of the Phoenix” was the most successful film at the UK and Ireland box office in 2007 with a final box office tally of £49.4 million ($97.8 million).

This past Sunday a documentary titled J.K. Rowling - A Year in the Life, which chronicled the last year in which the Harry Potter authored the last book in the series Deathly Hallows, aired in the UK. Video of the documentary is now online for those unable to view it in the UK.

New role for Daniel Radcliffe

Recent news articles have stated that “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe is slated to be involved in a new project about the life of photographer Dan Eldon (who was killed in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993) and we received confirmation on this project earlier this past weekend.

Richard Griffiths & Julie Walters on Queen’s New Year honors list

“Harry Potter” actors Richard Griffiths and Julie Walters are scheduled to receive Orders of the British Empire (OBE) and Commander of the British Empire (CBE) respectively. These awards were created by King George V in 1917 and are now awarded mainly to civilians and service personnel for public service or other distinctions.

‘USA Today’ picks ‘Deathly Hallows’ as book of the year

With 2007 slowly coming to a close, the last book in the “Harry Potter” series, “Deathly Hallows,” has been chosen by ‘USA Today’ as their book of the year stating that: “Hallows” is the book of the year because Rowling gave her story an ending that was as graceful, unpredictable and satisfying as the series itself.”

‘Potter’ actresses give thoughts on final book

Actresses Katie Leung and Evanna Lynch from the “Harry Potter” movies recently gave their personal thoughts on the last book in the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” While Evanna realized that her theories were “rubbish” she was happy to be correct about Prof. Snape. Ms. Leung adds that she hoped that her character, Cho Chang, had finally found happiness and has gotten over Harry and Cedric.

Last July we told you of a documentary on “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and that it was set to air in the UK this winter. A description of the show is now available and will include scenes of when JK turned over the completed manuscript of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” interviews with the author, her publishers and her husband, Dr. Neil Murray.

JKR named “Most Fascinating Person of 2007″

In the annual special “10 Most Fascinating People” of the year named by TV personality Barbara Walters, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling was named the ‘Most Fascinating Person’ for 2007. We have the video from the show and while the special did not contain any new interviews with Ms. Rowling it does show you the reason JK received this nod from Barbara Walters.
