Last month we let you know that “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling was one of three nominees for this year’s Morgan Stanley Great Briton 2007 awards. Update: JKR receives South Bank award; discusses ‘Harry Potter’

The South Bank Awards took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London today with Lord Richard Attenborough presenting author J.K. Rowling an award for outstanding achievement in the arts in recognition of the “Harry Potter” series. In an interview from the event JKR also said that finishing the series was “more painful than getting divorced” and that she has finished writing about Harry. Heyman says that Del Toro “not really in the running” to direct ‘Deathly Hallows’

Some news around the web today indicates that director Guillermo Del Toro, who has previously indicated that he would be interested in directing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” is in talks to direct “The Hobbit” and when producer David Heyman was asked to comment on this he stated “that Del Toro was sadly not really in the running because he’s rather busy.”

Update: Gloucester Cathedral prepares for ‘HBP’ filming

Last week we let you know that filming of the “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” movie at Gloucester Cathedral was going to take place shortly. Currently preparations are taking place with nearly 174 pupils prepared to film scenes. Pictures of the current events are now also online. Another report in reference to filming has now appeared online.

‘OotP’ included on BAFTA longlists

With the awards season slowly upon us, news comes from Britain that “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has been included in the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA’s) longlists for this year in six categories. The BAFTA longlists include 15 movies in each category, from which five nominees will be chosen in the second round of voting, which closes January 14th.
